Joanna arrived here safe and sound! She got here Thursday morning, and we spent the rest of the day trying to keep her busy so she would stay awake and not be jet-lagged. So after getting her at the airport, we went on-base, got her visitor's i.d. card, and then went to the BX and the Commissary. When we came home, we unpacked some boxes we had gotten in the mail (woo-hoo) and she and I went for a bike ride around the village. Friday we just hung around the house and relaxed, went for a walk, got a pastry from a bakery in the village (yummy!), and went to dinner at a restaurant that is only a couple of streets from our's. It was pretty good! Jesse and I had schnitzel (yummmm), and Joanna got a pizza shaped like a heart!!!
Yesterday, July 31, we went to Heidelberg. Many of you have probably heard of it. We are very fortunate to have good friends who let us tag along with them! As many of you know, Jesse and I still cannot drive. We have a car, but cannot drive it. Lord willing, that will change tomorrow (Monday, Aug 2). We are both scheduled to take our drivers test (it's a written exam) tomorrow morning at 7:15 a.m. So anyway, we rode to Heidelberg with our friends Kevin and Amanda. Kevin and Amanda both attended FC while Jesse was there. Kevin is in the air force, and they moved to Germany about 2 weeks before we did. They are as eager as we are to explore! We really liked Heidelberg! It's a bigger city, so lots to see. The Hauptstrasse in Heidelberg (main street) is the longest pedestrian road in Europe. We only went down half of it. We had lunch, saw lots of beautiful architecture, went to a Christmas store, and to a castle! It was a great day. And if you think I have a lot of pictures from it, you should see how many Joanna took. I have about 175 pictures, but she has a LOT more than that! The slideshow would only let me put 100 pictures on it :) To see all of the pictures, you can find them on my facebook page! Hope you enjoy! Lots more to come!!!
Lots of love,
Jesse and Amber
